01. Friends of the Foundation

Living in a warm and dry environment is good for everyone, but for people with a respiratory condition it is vital for them to stay well.

For so many families, the everyday reality is that their home is damp and cold which in turn leads to more illnesses and aggravating respiratory conditions in particular.

Suffering from Asthma since he was a child Baden Brown one of our Directors knows first-hand the huge impact a well-ventilated home has on someone with respiratory problems. He is quoted as saying “It’s so good to know that anyone living in an eHaus doesn’t have to have to worry about the air they are inhaling”

Our funds will support the foundation with education and raise awareness, Supporting vulnerable communities, and leading best practice.

We have heard more and more on this topic as the media have shone a bright light on it. So, at eHaus we wanted to make a difference and are proud to say we are the first Gold Friends of the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation – a perfect fit for us.

02. Health Survey

Knowing what a difference living in an eHaus makes to people with respiratory issues, we thought it would be great to hear firsthand from our eHaus homeowners to understand what health condition/s they suffered previously that are now gone or greatly improved since you moved in. Do you have 2 minutes to let us know? Click the button below!

03. What makes an eHaus so different?

Our eHaus Waikato team recently made up a fantastic video which answers this very question. A fab little easy-to-watch video that features two of our amazing clients who talk about living in their eHaus. This is a great link to share or show your friends and family who ask, ‘how does this all work?’

04. Better Breathing Heroes

What an exciting launch for the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation – ‘Breathe Better September’. This campaign is a great initiative with a worthy cause which we can all get involved in, by becoming Better Breathing Heroes.

Our whole team nationwide is getting behind this campaign to raise funds and make a difference to the 700,000 kiwis living with a respiratory condition. Keen to support us? Check out what the Central Office are up to via the link below!

05. An NZ first – low carbon concrete

New Zealand’s first low carbon concrete with D5 Green was poured in Nelson on 25th August. It was a 49m3 floor slab for an eHaus which kicked off a new partnership between eHaus and Neocrete.

Neocrete NZ supply D5 Green – an innovative admixture to concrete that improves its performance and reduces its carbon footprint.

With D5 Green, we managed to achieve over 1.5-ton reduction in embodied carbon of the floor slab (the equivalent of a return flight between Paris and New York). This was through reduction in cement and removal of other carbon-intensive admixtures and replacing them with D5 Green at only 3% of cement (around 370 kgs of D5 Green in total). A very promising result, given very limited solutions available in NZ for carbon reduction for concrete.

Zarina Bazoeva Director of Neocrete said ‘we are very happy to partner with eHaus and are confident we can reduce the carbon reduction even further.”

Jon Iliffe – eHaus Director was on site on the day – check out this very cool video – together with Neocrete we really are redefining the way we construct.

06. Do we value homes that perform?

Do we value homes that perform? We just had to share this excellent read from Roman Jaques – BRANZ Senior building environment Scientist who tackles the big question on the need for a high performing home, but as consumers how confident can you be in knowing how your home is going to perform before and after its built.

‘Consumers don’t value building performance… Although people like the idea of having an efficient, comfortable home, the cost of building in New Zealand has meant that features such as the kitchen and bathroom are prioritised over home performance.’
It’s surprising to us that knowing this kind of information isn’t seen as critical when investing in one of the largest investments of your life ‘ your home’ Too often, there is an assumption that with a new build comes security that it will be both energy efficient and healthy.

At eHaus every build is measured through the Passive House Planning Package, this provides proven measured performance while the home is still on the plans. We think that every new homeowner should have this kind of certainty.

07. It’s World Green Building Week!

Join thousands of people in Aotearoa this September for World Green Building Week.

Aotearoa, and the rest of the world, is facing two substantial challenges. We need an effective economic stimulus. And we also need to slash our climate pollution.

These twin challenges will not be solved unless healthy, less polluting places for people are put at the heart of the solutions.

This is the most important time ever for the building and construction sector in Aotearoa. Our sector has a key role to play in tackling era-defining problems. And that’s what makes this year’s World Green Building Week so vital.

Join thousands of New Zealanders this September as we celebrate World Green Building Week with a series of thought-provoking events.

NZGB will be hosting a series of panel discussions, webinars, and breakfast events tackling the big issues. Can a shovel-ready approach ever truly solve fundamental problems? Can the financial services industry be a catalyst for change? How can we fully realise the enormous potential for social and green procurement?

08. Redefining AirBnB – Book your next stay in an eHaus

Kahuimanu is a purpose-built BnB guest wing linked to a brand new eHaus built in New Zealand’s rural heartland in the eastern Waikato. Situated just 10kms from Te Aroha township, this eHaus has spectacular views of the Kaimai ranges, with Mount Te Aroha (the mountain of love) as the focal point.

Whether you’re exploring the region, pedalling the Hauraki cycle trail, looking for a rural retreat away from the city, needing a gateway stopover for the Coromandel or Bay of Plenty, or want to understand what makes an eHaus tick, this is the place for your bed and breakfast accommodation. This AirBnB is situated in New Zealand’s “golden triangle”, within easy reach of Hamilton, Tauranga and Auckland.

It can accommodate up to four in the private guest wing (two couples, or a couple and two singles), with your own lounge, bathroom and tea/coffee facilities independent of the main house.

The hosts appreciate that some of their guests want seclusion and privacy while others will want to join them in the main house for meals and conversation. They accommodate both, whether for the supplied breakfast, or should you also require an optional dinner.
