On 4th February 2020, Jon from eHaus spoke to Mike Hosking about Passive Houses and the benefits of building the passive house way in New Zealand.
Passive Houses are draught proofed to the extreme, the house is completely sealed. Fresh air comes into the house every 3 hours, the air is exchanged with filtered air from outside. Passive Houses have superior insulation and they maintain a constant temperature throughout the year, with little to no heating required while being very quiet.
A Passive House can lower your electricity bill by up to 75%.
The cost per square metre to build a passive house, is approximately 15% more compared to an individually designed house.
More people are recognising there is a better way of doing things. Passive Houses are built to last and are the most cost-effective house, you can ever build taking into account the lifetime cost.
