Regional Team Q&A with eHaus Marlborough

Recently we launched a new segment that shines a light on our regional teams who bring our high-performance homes to life. Every eHaus is project-managed by a local team who guides each build from the very first client conversations through to handover day, taking care of every part of the design and build process along the way. Across the country, each team brings its own expertise, personality and passion for building better homes. Regional Team Q&A is our way of sharing their stories with you.

Regional Team Q&A with eHaus Marlborough 

What’s one thing you wish every homeowner knew about energy efficiency?

"One of the things I wish more homeowners understood about energy efficient building is that it's not just a number that drops out on the power bill at the end of the month, but it's also a home that feels different. And it's really hard to explain until you close that front door behind you, but they are just more comfortable."

What's your favourite tool on site?

"My favourite tool on site has definitely got to be the blower door tester. We use this twice throughout the period of the project, once at about mid-stage when all of our airtightness layers are dialed in and we're testing those numbers. That's when we start betting on who's going to guess the final number, and the winner often gets Smoko. The second time we'll employ that machine is right at the end of the project when we're confirming those numbers to make sure that we've achieved the Passive House certification standards, if that's what we're targeting. or filling in the eHaus standards to make sure that we've achieved our own goals."

What’s something unique about Marlborough?

"I believe there are two main factors that make Marlborough just a little bit special from other regions in New Zealand. One being the access to the most astonishing views that are available in the country. Our designers work hard to incorporate those into all of our designs and really make the most of them. And the second is those huge temperature swings we get between summer and winter, from the mid to high 30s, all the way down to those sub-zero temperatures on those frosty mornings. All of that plays into the strength of energy efficient building."

What’s one thing most people wouldn’t know about your team?

"Fun fact about eHaus Marlborough, we got established in the region in 2019. From that point, we were working towards our first certified build, and we finally achieved that at the start of 2025, achieving Passive House Plus certification. And that was the first Passive House in the region, so we're really, really proud of that."

How do you work with architects to bring homes to life?

"We work closely with our designers and architects through the design phase to ensure that we've got all the appropriate information we can pass on to the clients. so that they know where we're at and we can make any changes or adjustments as we go."

Micky has 15 years experience as a Carpenter, gaining his training while serving in the army and air force for the New Zealand Defence Force.
