Healthy Homes - A Kiwi Dream: Episode 2

In  by andreaJun 22, 2023

Asthma New Zealand presents Healthy Homes – A Kiwi Dream. A series of six episodes which showcase how homes are built and what can be done to make homes healthier which, in turn, keeps the people that live within them healthier.

Episode 2

Katheren, Chief Executive of Asthma New Zealand speaks to a variety of experts to understand installation. Watch the video below to learn more.

The World Health Organization’s data shows, if you live in a mild climate, you’re more likely to die in winter. If you don’t build well, it’s uncomfortable, cold, damp, mouldy, there is respiratory illness, but that doesn’t kill us tonight, it’s a slow burn.

Housing is the first line of defence in providing health, if we spent some more money in the housing sector, we’d have less demand on the health care system.

Insulation is just one component of making a house warmer.

Protecting insulation from the outside and the inside, with layers – airtightness and vapour control layers is really important.

The eHaus difference

Every eHaus is built with the right amount of insulation to match the regional climate. They also have fully insulated slabs, to keep the heat in. But that’s not enough on its own. eHaus’ are built air-tight to stop air escaping, so there are no cold draughts. They have a mechanical heat recovery ventilation system which circulate fresh air and extract excess moisture in the air. The building envelope is built to stay warm and comfortable, with no moisture or mould, resulting in an extremely healthy living environment.
